In the oil and gas industry, during the engineering design of pipe support and standard piping assembly are usually a heavy workload. Therefore, we have developed an automatic placement command based on rules to save time and maintain model content consistency.
Principle and Function Support Automatic Placement Command
The engineering design rules, such as distance from bottom of pipe to supporting surface, Pipe Insulation, Pipe NPD and Pipe Material Grade, are all encapsulated into the xml file.
This command can automatically place the pipe support through the S3D dotnet API according to the rules based on XML. During the placement, Support type which you want to select can be switched.
Standard Piping Assembly Automatic Placement
The engineering design rules of standard piping assembly (Pressure Gauge, Pressure Transmitter, Temperature Gauge, Temperature Transmitter), such as Piping Materia Class, NPD, Short Code, Option and Instrument Tag, are all encapsulated into the xml file.
This command can automatically place the different standard piping assembly, continuously and automatically through the S3D dotnet API according to the rules based on XML.
Advantages and Improvement
The Support Automatic Placement Command has been applied in more than 15 projects and more than 1500 hours have been saved. Using this command ensure that pipe supports are designed in the same rules. This command was developed using the MVVM design pattern and can be extended based on the good practice in the future.
The Standard Piping Assembly Automatic Placement Command greatly improves the work efficiency and reduces the workload of engineers. The design efficiency of the Standard Piping Assembly has increased by more than 85%. This command also maximizes model installation consistency at the same time.
