The field-loading function is widely supported for the airborne systems orequipments of various aircrafts,which can significantly improve themaintainability of airborne equipments.The applicable certificationconsideration being completely converted into specific design strategies isessential for the design of the field-loading software.The system safetyconsiderations relating to field-loadable software (FLS) in DO-178C forms thebasic certification and safety requirements for the field-loading softwaredesign.A generic field-loading software design strategy for airborne equipmentswith limited memory resource based on ARINC825 is provided.Several key designstrategies are described to ensure compliance with all DO-178C FLS safetyconsiderations,including the robust of data transmission protocol,dataintegrity verification,activation of field-loading function,software/hardwarecompatibility check,and inadvertent activation protection.It‘s demonstrated in an airborne equipment projectthat both the data transmission speed and software loading safety areensured,and the maintainability of the equipment is effectively improved.
